For years I woke up thinking about when I would take my first painkiller. I kept a bottle on my nightstand because it felt safer to have it close. I convinced myself it was the only way to get through a normal day. I never stopped long enough to ask why I depended on it so much. I just accepted it because it had become part of my routine.

The Moment Everything Felt Too Routine

One evening I reached for another pill and paused. Not because I felt better. I paused because I suddenly realized I had taken the same pill at almost the exact same time the day before. It felt like my life had turned into a loop. I knew the pattern too well. Wake up tired. Take something. Push through the day. Repeat it the next morning.
