A missing tooth has a domino effect; this means one missing tooth can result in multiple missing teeth. Missing teeth can have a huge impact on your daily life, dental health and overall well-being. The consequences of missing teeth are varied, and before you know it, you may lose all your teeth.

You should maintain excellent dental hygiene and visit your dentist and hygienist at least once every six months to ensure your teeth are clean and healthy and that there are no underlying issues that may cause complications later on. Unfortunately, many dental health complications such as cavities, tooth decay and gum disease are asymptomatic in their early stages, meaning that if you do not visit your dentist, you may not realise that you are affected. By the time symptoms present themselves, the problem may have developed. However, if you visit your dentist on time, they can identify the issue and treat it successfully before it causes irreversible damage. Another problem with avoiding dental checkups is that plaque and tartar can build up on your teeth. Although plaque can be removed with effective brushing, tartar cannot be without professional cleaning, and the longer it remains on your teeth, the more chance there is of developing tooth decay and gum disease. If you avoid your dentist completely, tooth decay and gum disease can cause tooth loss.

Replacing missing teeth

If you have a wobbly tooth or your dentist decides that you need to undergo a tooth extraction, it is very important that you also find out about replacing teeth. To avoid the consequences of missing teeth, you need to have them replaced immediately. To begin with, missing teeth can have a huge impact on the appearance of your smile, affecting your self-confidence and how other people look at you. Your smile may be one of your best features; however, a missing tooth can change this completely.

By replacing missing teeth with dental implants Melbourne, you can restore the appearance of your smile. Missing teeth also change the appearance of your face, causing your cheeks to visibly sag and making you look a lot older than you actually are. Dental implants can prevent changes in your facial features and restore your youthful appearance. Another problem is that missing teeth can make your remaining teeth crooked because they try to fill the space left by the missing tooth; this can weaken the teeth as well so that they are not only crooked but also at risk of becoming loose and resulting in further tooth loss. Again dental implants can help prevent this as they can strengthen your remaining teeth by providing them with strong support.

Missing teeth can cause issues with biting and chewing, and you may find that you cannot enjoy your favourite foods anymore. Dental implants can solve this problem better than other types of tooth replacement because implants can be embedded firmly into your jaw, meaning it holds the tooth replacement securely in place. A dental implant should allow you to bite and chew as you would with your natural teeth.

Speak to your dentist sooner rather than later to replace your missing tooth. A dental implant can be used to replace a single tooth or all your teeth. The quicker you speak to your dentist, the less complicated the process will be. If you continue to skip out on dental checkups, you will eventually need extensive treatment that will take up many hours and cost a lot of money as well. Remember that nothing is as good as the real thing, although dental implants are very close, so look after your teeth properly and visit your dentist regularly to avoid missing teeth.

If you lose a tooth as a result of tooth decay, gum disease or injury, speak to your dentist without any delay and replace the tooth as soon as possible. Dental implants have been designed as a permanent solution for tooth loss, so visit your dentist today, look after the rest of your teeth and enjoy a happy and healthy smile for the rest of your life.
